Stem Cells
We support stem cell research to find lifesaving cures.
Nebraska Cures believes that stem cell research, therapies or cures that are permitted by federal law should be allowed in Nebraska. The only exception is that such activities are conducted ethically and safely, and do not involve human reproductive cloning. Therapies also need to be proven effective and safe through clinical trials.
Regenerative medicine has tremendous promise, but some marketed products are unproven and, in some cases, are dangerous.
During the 2022 legislative session, we worked with Speaker John Arch to pass LB 753, a bill requiring those providing stem cell therapies get informed consent from patients that they understand these therapies are not FDA approved. The goal is to ensure Nebraskans understand the risks and lack of evidence regarding these treatments.
Under bill, patients in Nebraska would be informed that stem cell therapies aren’t approved – OWH, January 20, 2022
On January 24, 2022, Nebraska Cures co-hosted a webinar on stem cell therapies for senators and staff. Watch to learn more about the problems with unproven therapies.
