Nebraska Cures and Bio Nebraska, co-hosts of the Nebraska Women in STEM Conference, announced today that construction industry trailblazer Barb Allen will headline the 2027 event as keynote speaker. The fifth annual conference will be held March 2 and 3, 2027, at the Lincoln Cornhusker Marriott in Lincoln, NE.

“Our upcoming conference takes place during national women in construction month,” said Nebraska Cures Executive Director Amanda McGill Johnson. “Barb’s journey from the trade floor to the executive suite is exactly the kind of story that shows our attendees what’s possible.”

Barb Allen is a speaker, author, podcast host, and former construction executive with more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry. Her career journey has taken her from tradeswoman to executive leadership, giving her a unique perspective on leadership, workplace culture, and career advancement in predominantly male industries.

Drawing from real-world experience and powerful storytelling, Barb challenges audiences to think differently about the norms they accept, the culture they create, and the impact they have on the people around them.

Barb is the author of OneLadder to Leadership and host of the Constructive Behaviors podcast.

In addition to the keynote address from Allen, the conference schedule will feature opportunities for women to develop their personal and professional identity, as well as build networks of support to help them achieve their goals.

“This year’s theme, ‘You Belong,’ is about more than just attending a conference — it’s about feeling seen, supported, and ready to grow,” said McGill Johnson. “Every year, the Nebraska Women in STEM Conference grows, and we’ve fostered an inspiring, fun and encouraging environment where women and allies feel supported and heard.”
