Nebraska Cures is deeply concerned about the Trump administration’s proposed caps on costs associated with National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding for medical research.

As noted in recent press reports, the caps would mean the University of Nebraska would lose $27 million in federal funding with additional funding loses to Creighton University and Boys Town National Research Hospital.

These devastating cuts would lead to less lifesaving research and laying off staff.

While the courts put a temporary stop on the funding cuts, we must act now to express our support for medical research funding and the treatments and cures research produces. Even if these cuts to existing budgeted funds are protected, Congress will likely debate more permanent cuts to research funding in the next annual budget.
