Nebraska Cures has had a relatively successful legislative session. The following is an update on legislation Nebraska Cures is following at the State Capitol.
LB 385 – Provides grants to new teachers and those who complete certification in science, technology or math – Support – Included in LB 705, which is on Final Reading.
LB 421 – Would change the way Lincoln-Lancaster County implements directed health measures – Oppose – Has not been voted out of committee.
LB 422 – Prevents disciplinary action for physicians providing medical advice that disagrees with medical consensus – Oppose – Has not been voted out of committee.
LB 539 – Directs settlement money to be used for the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program – Support – Included in LB 818, which is on Final Reading.
LB 657 – Statewide cancer Support and education – Support – Included in LB 814, which is on Final Reading.
LB 802 – Allocates $5 million for pediatric cancer research – Support – Included in LB 818, which is on Final Reading.

LB 40 – Adopt the Riparian and Water Quality Practices Act – Has not been voted out of committee.
LB 419 – Require submission of a medicaid state plan amendment to extend postpartum coverage – On General File
LB 492 – Allow income tax deductions for the cost of certain property and for certain research or experimental expenditures – Has not been voted out of committee.
LB 787 – Adopt the STEEM Development Act – Included in LB 705, which is on Final Reading.
LB 810 – Adopt the Medical Ethics and Diversity Act – Has not been voted out of committee.
