Today, the legislature is debating LB 2, the budget cutting bill. Fortunately, the Appropriations Committee voted to maintain the $15 million in biomedical research funded by the Health Care Cash Fund when they amended the bill in committee. This is terrific news! Thank you to everyone who emailed the members of the Appropriations Committee and helped make this happen. If you have time, please email the committee thanking them.
It is possible that as the bill is debated by the full body of the legislature, there could be an amendment that once again targets biomedical research dollars. We are standing by and will let you know if this happens and we need you to email state senators.
In the meantime, we are making plans to further educate policymakers about the economic and health impacts of this biomedical research funding.
